The Pecos River corridor passes through granite canyons, high mountain meadows, and stands of pines and offers high-quality fishing. The Pecos River’s designated wild segment is entirely in the Pecos Wilderness. The recreational segment of the river is located along State Highway 63 from Cowles to the village of Pecos. A New Mexico fishing license is required.

There are opportunities to fish private, Orvis-endorsed waters and to participate in a catch and release program in a three mile section of river managed by Pecos National Historic Park. Guided fishing trips are also available.
