A Blustery Day
October 2021
It is rather a blustery day, as Winnie the Pooh would say. I imagine he and Piglet and Rabbit cozied up in Pooh’s living room, snug against the weather, while Eeyore, standing outside in the drizzle with his head hung low, complains about the cold and damp.
As the winds tug the golden leaves from the Aspen and Cottonwoods, I, too, am cozied up, watching the weather from inside. A hot cup of Earl Grey steams beside me as I contemplate the Harvest Vegetable Soup I am making for dinner. On a day like today, green chile will be a toothsome, heart-warming addition.
A call earlier in the day from a couple bicycling Route 66. They planned on leaving Las Vegas, arriving in Pecos this evening and were calling to inquire about cabin availability. With high winds and rain predicted, today is a miserable day to be on a bicycle. They determined to stay another night in Las Vegas.
As the afternoon ticks by, I hasten to complete chores to which I must attend before nightfall: unhook the garden hoses, pick the last remaining garden veggies, fill the bird feeders, bring in the potted geraniums.
With a freeze predicted, I fear that the lovely Autumn colors will fall by morning. It may be a blustery day, but a cozy cabin and simmering soup await. Just as soon as I get those chores tackled.
Thanks for stopping by.
